Holt Town Waterfront is a 38 hectare (95 acre) site to the east of Manchester City Centre and to the west of Sport City in East Manchester and contains both the Ashton Canal and the River Medlock. Currently an under-used area with an industrial character, key elements of which are vacant and derelict, Holt Town will become a pioneering new quarter of Manchester.
Located less than a mile east of Manchester city centre, Holt Town will be the largest residentially focussed development in Northern England. Currently an underused area with an industrial character set in a valley along the Ashton Canal and River Medlock, the 38 hectare site will be transformed over the next fifteen years into a new residential urban quarter integrating space for businesses, shops restaurants and leisure activities. The masterplan, which was approved in Janaury 2007, calls for a sustainable mixed use community with significant landscaping and a Manchester Metro Link station at its heart. A mix of family homes will be built, including houses, family appartments and duplexes, each with their own parking space and access to green space and private gardens. In additon to residential development, the focus of the project will be on generating employment, providing innovative design approaches, sustainability, a good environment, high quality design, facilities supporting families and green landscaped areas linking adjacent areas and communities. In addressing the key social, economic and environmental challenges posed, the regeneration of Holt Town presents an opportunity to create a community where families will want to plant long term roots.
To realise this major revitalisation project, the Manchester City Council selected Cibitas Investments East Manchester Ltd, a special purpose partnership that includes ING Real Estate as a shareholder, which will work together with the minicipal authorities, landowners, local residents and various other stakeholders. Using its extensive experience in providing integrated development solutions, ING Real Estate will play a lead role in this challenging transformation scheme requiring both long term vision and commitment to provide high quality living, working and recreational environments.
The development of Holt Town will enable families to live close to Manchester City centre without compromising lifestyle, green space or the ammenities usually found in suburban areas. It will also create a unique and distinct community that is destined to become Manchester's newest urban quarter.
