The Broekpolder residential development is a space for residential construction, created in a beautiful location amidst the varied landscape between Heemskerk and Beverwijk. Citadel will become the centre of Broekpolder, a beating heart with a special appeal and the striking atmosphere of a fortress city.
The striking architecture by the Berlin firm Krier & Kohl make the Citadel a project in which each residence has a unique and individual appeal.
Shaped like a star
Like many old cities, Citadel is shaped like a star. Over the centuries, this tried and tested shape has allowed citizens to defend themselves against enemies. Residents will feel equally at ease in this modern variety of a defensive work, which will encircle the heart of the Broekpolder. A promenade has been planned around Citadel, along the outer walls of the residential blocks, offering an excellent path for a wonderful waterside walk. Every point of the star will house two ‘living quarters’, which will be connected by an alleyway with a pleasant atmosphere. Each of these residential blocks will enclose an intimate, green courtyard, offering parking space for the residents’ cars. All streets in this present-day interpretation of a mediaeval town lead to the central square: a centre within a centre offering various facilities and entertainment to both visitors and residents of Citadel.
