An entirely new residential district called CiBoGa is starting to take shape on the edge of Groningen’s historic city centre. Compact sets of buildings will be spaciously laid out, acting as thirteen 'partitions' spread over the entire area. This will allow for ample space for water and greenery, resulting in a neighbourhood with a countrified feel.
This new neighbourhood offers a unique combination of residential, working and leisure possibilities. A wide variety of shops, offices and underground parking areas creates a distinct urban quality here. With the Noorderplantsoen, – the “green lung” of the city centre – just around the corner, environmental quality plays an important role in CiBoGa. Traffic inconvenience and noise pollution are rarities here.
Location
CiBoGa (whose Dutch name alludes to the area’s past role as a site for Circus, Carrier and Gasworks activities) lies on the city’s former rampart, on the edge of the city centre. Shops, cultural facilities, the University Hospital, and the Rijks University are all within walking distance of CiBoGa.
