Overhoeks, Amsterdam Overhoeks impression as aerial view

Many changes are underway on the northern banks of the River IJ. The first extensive project will be developed on what is known as the Overhoeks. The area involved here is situated alongside the Tolhuistuin park, next to the main ferry terminal, across from the Amsterdam central railway station.

This area, for many years off limits to the general public, will soon be transformed into a tranquil residential and commercial neighbourhood offering urban and cultural amenities, including a delightful riverside park on the sunny side of the river, a museum surrounded by greenery, and restaurants and cafés. This lively neighbourhood will boast a number of high-rise buildings, busy streets and dynamic town-squares, while it will also offer tranquil residential areas and peaceful, green courtyards. The Overhoeks is being developed into a new neighbourhood with an urban feel.

Urban Mix
The site will boast a modern, urban mix of residences, office space, commercial facilities such as hotels, shops, restaurants, and conference facilities, as well as non-commercial facilities including a museum, schools, and medical-social facilities. In addition, a full 5,200 parking places will be realised on the Overhoeks, most of which will be underground.

Green Riverside Park
Now that the Overhoeks is being transformed from a closed business park into a welcoming urban district, Amsterdam will have the chance to enjoy a beautiful, green river bank on the sunny side of the River IJ. The riverside park is to be a restful area meant for relaxing while taking in the cityscape across the river. Outdoor cafés, cultural activities and a cycleway and footpath give this area the look and feel of a true riverside park.
