After having been closed for two years for refurbishment works, the Flemish Opera in Antwerp reopened her doors on November 16th.

ING Real Estate Development, as a public-private partnership , in close collaboration with Verdickt & Verdickt Architects, building contractor Roegiers, the Flemish Opera and the Flemish authorities, executed the second phase of the works of the project.

The project of +/- 8.000 m² is a complex blending of functions dedicated to the Flemish Opera with 16 lofts and a new brasserie. It is a combination of refurbishment, demolition and new constructions.

The opera has thus been reinforced behind the scenes with a side stage, a loading platform, workshops, offices and a new practice room for the opera choir.

The old Wagner Hotel, on the corner of the Frankrijklei and Rooseveltplaats, where ING Insurance’s offices have been located for a number of years, will regain part of its old functions.  The brasserie on the ground floor will add to the attractiveness of the new town square.  It was sold to Diepensteyn nv (the real estate company of Palm Breweries) and the opening is planned in the second half of 2008.
All of the lofts were sold to RB Vastgoed, who will complete their finishing in 2008.
