Commenting on the selection Roger Hargreaves, Chairman of the REAL Photography Award Jury, said “Photography it seems has never been livelier, more inventive and more creative.
Some photographs were always destined for the final selection. As a group, the jury was conscious of wanting to produce not just a selection of the best, but a coherent exhibition that would serve as a benchmark of contemporary photography’s engagement with the shifting metropolis and the ever more delicate balance of the environment. We also wanted to reflect the breadth of the submissions and acknowledge interests that recurred across a range of entrants”.

The final phase of judging and the announcement of the overall winner will take place on 20 March 2008, the opening day of the REAL Photography Award exhibition incorporating the photographs of all 30 award nominees. The venue of the exhibition will be the Las Palmas II Art Exhibition Centre in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. A colour catalogue of all thirty entries will be available at the travelling exhibition, which will close on 4 May 2008. Further locations will be announced at a later date.
