It’s great working for one of the leading companies in global real estate – one that’s engaged in finance, development and investment management. For me this was quite a change after a career in commercial banking.

My first job was Risk Manager at ING Real Estate Development. After two years I was appointed Regional Risk Manager Asia/Pacific for all three business lines with the main goal to set up a regional risk management team. Location: Sydney

What I love about my job

What I love most about my job is the broad range of transactions that I am involved in. These include complex development projects and financing structures and setting up investment funds. The other good thing is the opportunity to get to know more of Asia, as I frequently visit our offices across the region, and living in Sydney with my wife and three kids is not bad at all

After getting my Law Degree at Leiden University in the Netherlands, I started my banking career as a Management Trainee. For the next fifteen years I worked in various front-office positions in Corporate Banking and Corporate Finance, first at Deutsche Bank and later on with ING Bank.

In my current job – risk assessment of investment proposals – I’ve had to learn to look at deals in a different way, but my commercial experience proved a big advantage here. I need analytical and communication skills and a lot of persistence. I get great satisfaction from good analysis reflected in a clear, concise investment proposal. I enjoy identifying all of the risks involved as well as the way these have been mitigated and approving a deal that results in good earnings for the company.
